Employee Spotlight: Yale Wang

Yale Wang employee spotlight

1. What is your position at Clarify and what do you do?
I’m a Principal Engineer at Clarify. My focus is on server-side feature development and architecture for Care Pilot and Connect – our products for patients and their caregivers that guide patients through personalized journeys of care.

2. What excites you most about Clarify?
I find the idea of care optimization very exciting. Healthcare is by nature a very complicated field. Current approaches often leave patients confused or overwhelmed. Caregivers often follow a one-size-fits-all script when guiding their patients through complicated processes. At Clarify, we help everyone involved by tailoring care to each individual patient. Patients receive educational materials and care instructions that are relevant to them – making it easier to adhere to their care path. And caregivers can direct their energies where and when they are needed most.

3. How did you hear about Clarify / How did you get here?
My first job out of college was at Tenfold, where I worked closely with Todd, Emmet, and Justin on projects in the insurance and healthcare spaces. Then I re-joined those guys at Advent where I spent 8 years working closely with Sam to build financial data and workflow management software. In the process, I got to know Adam and Erik through cross-product architecture discussions. Todd has always had a great vision for software – often pushing the boundaries and seemingly magical. I knew that with the core of the company built with some of the best engineers I’ve had the pleasure of working with, we could build something revolutionary.

4. What aspect of your role do you enjoy most?
I enjoy taking the complexity and variations in care paths and workflows and finding patterns in them so we can model them in software. The result is a care path and workflow that’s familiar and appropriate, but software-guided for greater precision and efficiency. It’s always been a critical aspect of the value I bring to any company I’ve worked at.

5. What project have you worked on here that you’re most proud of?
That would be the journey logic engine. I built a way to describe how details of a patient’s journey should unfold. It takes all that we know about the patient, their care team, and their behaviors and determines how the patient should progress through the steps and phases of their journey. Along the way, it creates customized tasks and alerts for the patient and caregivers to guide them towards their optimal outcome.

6. If you weren’t working at Clarify or in healthcare / technology in general, what would you be doing?
That’s a tough one. I’ve always worked in technology and honestly have trouble imagining a world where that isn’t the case. My wife has a thriving real estate business and has joked that I should go be her assistant. That seems so much harder than software development though!

7. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I went to the gym last week!

8. What’s your favorite app?
I may be biased, but Care Pilot! If anyone disagrees, we can get together and discuss.

9. Where is the coolest place you’ve traveled?
Yangshuo in China. The karst mountains and winding rivers are straight out of classic Chinese paintings.

10. Salty or sweet?
Salty

11. Favorite book, movie, and musician/band?
A Song of Ice and Fire
