Social and behavioral determinants of health (SBDoH), while not new, have recently garnered increasing media attention as being critical to the improvement of healthcare quality and outcomes. It is widely understood that SBDoH are a primary driver of health and that changes in SBDoH often precede health deterioration, yet much of the industry remains focused on reactive clinical interventions.
Roadblocks such as cost, transportation, childcare, time, and poor health literacy often lead patients to wait far too long to engage with the healthcare system, leading to worsening conditions, disease progression, and poor outcomes. Many of these roadblocks are linked to addressable or modifiable factors that could be managed with timely interventions.
In addition to commonly discussed social determinants such as socioeconomic status and access to transportation, there are thousands of interpretable social and behavioral health indicators to help us better understand patients and the care they require. But which signals are important and how do we make them useful?
We are finally at the point where major players are making substantial investments in developing SBDoH capabilities to understand these questions. Yet, payers and providers are still only scratching the surface when it comes to using SBDoH to personalize care. Meanwhile, consumer brands like Amazon and Instagram routinely and accurately predict exactly what goods an individual might like to buy. Healthcare’s recent advances in both data availability and analytics are making it possible to capitalize on the actionable use of SBDoH to deliver better healthcare outcomes and reduce costs.
To learn more about how SBDoH can enable next-gen risk stratification, join our webinar: Separating Signals from Noise on Thursday, July 25th at 11:00 AM EST / 8:00 AM PST.
In this webinar, we will:
- Quickly recap industry interest in and trends toward using SBDoH
- Highlight the importance of individually-attributed SBDoH from consumer sources in driving care insights
- Discuss challenges leveraging individually-attributed SBDoH
- Share strategies for navigating these challenges to make the most of SBDoH in risk stratification
